CO2 Fire Extinguisher
CO2 fire extinguishers are the correct choice for protecting electrical equipment, server rooms, data centres, offices, and any environment where live electrical fires are a realistic risk. Carbon dioxide extinguishes fires by rapidly displacing the oxygen that sustains combustion — and crucially, it leaves no residue whatsoever after discharge. This makes CO2 the only extinguisher type that is genuinely safe to use on live electrical equipment without causing additional damage to sensitive electronics, machinery, or data infrastructure.
CO2 extinguishers are effective on Class B fires involving flammable liquids and on Class E electrical fires. They are a standard and often mandatory requirement in server rooms, data centres, offices with significant IT infrastructure, retail environments with electronic point-of-sale equipment, and commercial kitchens with electrical appliances. The absence of residue also makes them the preferred choice in any environment where the clean-up implications of powder or foam would be unacceptable.
It is important to note that CO2 extinguishers should be used with caution in very confined spaces, as the displacement of oxygen can be hazardous to people in the immediate vicinity. In small enclosed rooms, evacuation should accompany or precede use. All Safegear CO2 extinguishers are EN 3 certified and available in sizes from 2 kg to 5 kg, covering individual office rooms through to larger server room installations. Regular servicing and inspection are required to maintain operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
